I have mixed emotions about my race performance today.  I will point out some of those feelings.

A.  I felt like I could have done better.

B.  I recently came off of an injury and I have not put in my maxed out effort, as far as mileage is concerned.

C.  I am truly thankful that I was actually able to run today.  A few months ago I did not even consider doing this race.

D.  Friends.  As I race I was cheered on by David and my brother Riley.  It felt good to run and be recognized.  I also loved seeing RAD in her AWESOME shirt.

E.  I have so much to improve on before the Ogden half.

F.  So dang happy I was not doing the full.

G.  So dang happy I don't have a full marathon on my schedule right now.

Details:  I slept on my brother's love sac last night and probably totaled 4 hours of sleep.  Waited for Trax to pick me up at the Energy Solutions arena for about 20 minutes.  I had a friend there running the full marathon and we were able to chat a little about what he was about to experience.  Rode the crowded Trax train up to the U.  Got to the start and met David at the bridge.  We were able to use a bathroom in the ROTC training center and avoided the porta chaos all together!  Started the race too fast like I usually do, and found my pace at about mile 5.

I think the best part of the race was David following me on his bike cheering for me!  He is COOL.  There was also a guy on the side of the road cooking bacon at about mile 8.  YUM.  I love random things you see while you run races.  Pretty sure the bacon boy is at the top of the 'random list.'

I talked to RAD at the finish and admired her prego shirt.  The shirt read "If you think I am having fun, I am not!  The fun part was seven months ago!"  She only continues to kick trash in my book!  If I ever have children she told me I could borrow her shirt. :)

The volunteers were great, post race fuel was awesome, but picking up your race bag at the finish was a joke!  My brother and I also stuck around the Gateway and watched the marathon finishers come in.  I continue to be inspired at races and my running addiction only worsens with each race I do.

Came home and swam a mile. :)

As for sleep...Who needs it?

great job today. i think you ran a solid time for that course, especially coming off an injury. glad you were able to get out and enjoy the fun on such a beautiful day. nice mile swim afterward as well!

From RAD on Sat, Apr 17, 2010 at 17:12:37 from 67.172.229.125

Nice work Becca! For what you've gone through the last 3 months, you are doing FANTASTIC! I know you don't feel back to 'normal' but you are amazing and fast and you need to remember that! You had a great race, and I'm SO glad I got to see you!!! Plus a swim afterward...ahhhh, should've joined you!

I know you won't get any sleep tonight either, it's Saturday and YOU have a life :) So, get a nice cat nap in the sun outside on Sunday - then be ready for early mornings Tuesday and Thursday. If you're not there I'll hunt you down!

Oh...and watch out for chocolate milk jugs at the end of races, I've heard sometimes you find things in them :)

Allie,

Your comment means a lot to me, thank you for the lift in my spirits. Yes, it was a beautiful day.

RAD,

Thank you so much for the encouragement. Sometimes as runners I think we are a little too hard on ourselves.

You are right, probably another late night tonight. Cat nap is on the schedule tomorrow RAD. I can hardly wait to join the BBK's again. Crazy how the weather seems to help.

As for chocolate milk... Maybe I won't chug as fast. :) Very creative on that one RAD.

Becca, very nice pace on a hard course, after coming back from injury. Is every run the race of your life? We all hope so, time aside, effort is the measure, not time. You gave it the effort, one of the races of your life.

Good luck at the Ogden half, I am doing that one also.

Great race, Bec! I like David's job... I think I could handle the bike ride much much much better than I could handle shuffling my feet for 13.1 miles. He's a smart guy (obviously if you're dating him!). I don't get much sleep either... So enjoy that cat nap tomorrow. Right now it is 5pm on Saturday and I've been up since 7am yesterday.

Yes great run girl!!! Very impressive with your little break earlier in the year due to injury. : D

WOW - that was a fantastic race! I'm so excited you were just able to run (maybe the jealously is speaking:) ). There are many more races to come and kick some trash!

Well done!

nice job, I too thought it was a tough course, tougher than you would think from the elevation loss. There are some tough stretches in there. great time.

Good job Bec. I bet you get your PR at Ogden 1/2. You're doing great considering where you were at just a month or so ago.

From Jody on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 11:02:00 from 98.202.166.116

Congratulations! That is a great time! Glad you are starting to feel better and best of luck at Ogden.

You did such a great run at the SLC 1/2 and I'm glad that I got to meet you.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Brent,

Thank you for the words of wisdom. I do need to remember that not every race I run has to be the race of my life. A day after the race I feel a little bit better about my overall performance.

KP,

WOW! Sounds like you get a lot less sleep than I do. Are you on a perma caffeine intake? How do you manage to run on little sleep? Sometimes it feels like there are not enough hours in the day to do everything.

Julie,

Thank you for the encouragement. Gals like you on the blog make me want to work harder at achieving my running goals.

Toby,

Yeah, pretty much I have nothing to complain about because I am capable of running. Please heal, you need to be out there BQing soon.

Scott,

Is it a tough course? I guess there a few slight incline areas. I thought the course wasn't easy by any means but it wasn't too difficult. It was a pretty true course.

Jeff,

Thanks for the encouragement. Sometimes it's a little frustrating seeing yourself take a step back. I hope Ogden goes as planned... But it not, no BIGGIE.

Jody,

Thank you. Best of luck at Boston. I will be joining the BBK's shortly.

Tom,

So great to meet you too! I am going to go and read your blog now.

1:38 is a great time..Sweet race. Just think the majority of people were eating bacon and you just smoked a half marathon.

From AmberG on Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 18:53:29 from 64.255.88.27

Nice race! Great job on a great finish amidst the smelling of bacon, I'm afraid I would have stopped the race and just eaten breakfast instead, I LOVE the smell of bacon! Yum, , , sometimes people have tables with donuts out and I really do have to control myself to just run by!

That is such a speedy time considering if you are coming off injury. . . . nice job!

Good Luck in Ogden!!!

Bec - you are one awesome chicka (to use the venacular of the peasantry.) That's a great time for coming back from an injury.

From Matt on Mon, Apr 19, 2010 at 00:06:43 from 76.23.0.103

Bec, Great report especially the part about the mile swim and the sleep thing. You are an animal. Keep up the great work and don't stress the recovery your doing great.
